I teach Once Upon A Time There Was A Girl Who Really Loved Coffee And Dogs It Was Me The End Shirt college students. One of the worst responses I’ve ever had to that question was from a male student who was doodling in his notebook while other students responded. When it was his turn, he put down his pencil, gave a long pause, and sighed. He introduced himself without looking up. His voice was very even and quiet, so I had to lean in to hear him. He then said, “My fun fact? I wrote a kill list in high school,” and went right back to doodling. He wasn’t joking; he wrote an essay about the experience later in the semester. He nearly got expelled when one of his friends ratted on him.
