Being a retired Marine who has studied the war from both sides, Allied and Axis I understand that this happened. This was truly a war for the world would be. To see the Veterans of both sides meet and talk and shake hands is a huge thing to me. Myself being a combat veteran as well I don’t know if I could ever meet my foes face to face. It may just be a personal issue but I find a lot of us of the current wars feel this way. I like the mindset of the WW2 Veterans and how they thought of themselves and their enemies. Just my opinion and thoughts.

Being a Vietnam War veteran, he never could imagine making amends with Vietnamese veterans, nor did he ever want to go to the Wall in D.C. I noticed as he reached the final years of his life any anger he had about the war was more directed at the US government than who he fought. It made sense to me since Agent Orange was responsible for the kidney failure that eventually killed him.
